Vital Signs: Lethbridge Community Foundation
It can be difficult for businesses and other organizations to know which areas of the community have the greatest philanthropic need. Where can one’s donation make the most difference? One way to determine the most pressing needs in Southwestern Alberta is with information collected from local sources.
For the past five years, the Community Foundation has researched, complied and published local data in an annual Vital Signs report. An initiative of Community Foundations of Canada, Vital Signs highlights areas of need throughout our community. The report presents information in six impact areas: Community Connections, Cultural Life, Environment, Healthy Communities, Lifelong Learning, and Living Standards. By dividing the report’s information into these six areas, donors are able to familiarize themselves with areas of need in fields that align with their personal charitable goals.
Vital Signs also reports on outcomes of initiatives in each impact area made possible by philanthropy. Through information obtained from charities and other organizations, the report assesses the positive consequences of such initiatives throughout the community. These results are also compared to data from the surrounding region, providing a context and contrast of urban and rural living.
As a regional centre, many groups both inside and outside of the city look to Lethbridge when addressing need. Vital Signs helps empower local philanthropy by giving local organizations the tools to remain philanthropic leaders throughout southern Alberta.
